Joseph Peetz

Graduate Student

Joseph joined the NarangLab in the fall of 2022 as a Ph.D. student in physics, with broad interests across quantum information science. He specializes in designing efficient quantum algorithms for problems such as Hamiltonian simulation, open quantum systems simulation, and thermal state preparation. In 2023 he was a fellow through the NSF Quantum Research Traineeship, and in the summer of 2024 he interned as a Quantum Research Scientist at IBM. Joseph is passionate about science education and was recognized as an Outstanding Teaching Assistant by the UCLA Physics department in 2021. From 2022 to 2024, he also worked as an instructor for Qubit by Qubit, a nonprofit organization educating the next generation of quantum scientists.

Before joining the NarangLab, Joseph received his B.S. in Physics and Mathematics from Florida State University in 2020 and his M.S. in Physics from UCLA in 2022.

Outside of work, he enjoys beach volleyball, hiking, and rock climbing.
