Dr. Dennis S. Kim

Research Scientist

Dennis joined the Narang Lab in the fall of 2022 as a Research Scientist. He received his B.S. in Chemistry at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and his Ph.D. degree in Materials Science from the California Institute of Technology. Prior to joining the group, Dennis was a postdoctoral associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and a STROBE postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Los Angeles in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. His research background is in materials thermodynamics and understanding structure-property relationships through state-of-the-art scattering, imaging, and quantum mechanical computational techniques. He is interested in developing and optimizing materials for various applications through a fundamental understanding from the atom up.

Now back at UCLA, Dennis will focus on extending ab initio and machine-learning computational techniques to explore non-equilibrium transport mechanisms and study many-body interactions in quantum materials.
