Dr. Scott Smart

Postdoctoral Scholar

Scott joined the Narang Lab in the summer of 2022 as a Postdoctoral Scholar. He received his B.A. in Chemistry and Mathematics from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey in 2015, and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Chicago in 2022. His doctoral research focused on applications of reduced density matrix approaches for near-term quantum computing.

His current research interests span various topics related to quantum computing and chemistry, including quantum algorithm development for strongly correlated many-body systems, efficient measurement and low-cost approaches for NISQ devices, and the characterization and simulation of noisy open quantum systems.

Outside of work and spending time with his family, he enjoys coffee roasting and is an aspiring gardener.
